INTRODUCTION

The PT-2001 line is a purge type level measurement system that is based upon a proven technology combined with modern flex design and manufacturing techniques, and state of the art system components.

The purge type system is attractive in the contemporary market because it offers the ability to indirectly measure virtually any liquid from potable water to nuclear waste without exposing personnel to the process. In addition, the systems can be located up to 1,000 feet from the liquid in a convenient location, and offer a 20 year expected life.

The value added line is customized for single orders to high volume OEM applications, and are application specific. The choice of system components is based upon the required accuracy, installation environment, system criticality, and the interface needs. Low cost systems with moderate accuracy are available without any reduction in expected life.

Interfaces are available in any industry standard for local indication, computer interface, data-logging, local and wide area networks, and modem and internet communication. Of special interest is the ability to provide turn key interface with any of the existing Murphy control and communication lines.

Component selection can be driven by customer desired transducer vendors, sensors selected based upon cost and accuracy considerations, or our own Kearflex Precision Sender line.

The purge type system can be used in an exceptionally wide range of potential markets. The ability of this technology to measure extreme liquids allows access to applications where no other sensor can function reliably. Customers that have used this system to solve their most difficult problems return to use the product in other installations once they become familiar with the economy, reliability, and ease of use.

Municipal markets are very strong because of level monitoring requirements driven by EPA regulations. Tank overfill protection, tank leak detection, barge tank systems, and waste management infrastructure, have many applications for this type of level system.

Kearflex is dedicated to identifying the needs of each market, establishing the competitive price required to guarantee sales, and offering aggressive value added support that makes our product the easiest to specify, purchase, and own.

The value added systems are provided with engineering diagrams and schematics intended to allow the customer to service and repair this product using off the shelf products. Components are selected based upon quick availability, and ease of substitution. Kearflex is committed to true value that will allow us to cultivate loyal long term customer relationships.

PRODUCT ADVANTAGES

Purge type systems are one of the oldest methods to measure level. The systems can be configured to be exceptionally simple, or designed to provide control and fully redundant operation. This is a engineered line that is supported by off the shelf instrumentation products. These systems are application specific, can be easily maintained by the end user, and can be easily upgraded without discarding the base system.

We expect to sell one system for each application, and our marketing profile is true value, and lowest cost of ownership from specification to 20 year field installation. There is nothing disposable about this product. Components are off the shelf, and can be easily substituted if required. Systems are provided with real engineering data that allows the end user to understand and support the purchased product. The design is modular in nature, and is a platform for easy upgrades as desired without a loss of the original investment.

The specific advantage of the purge type level measurement system is the ability to use a sensitive and accurate pressure transducer that is not in direct contact with the liquid. Personnel are not exposed to the process liquid during measurement, calibration, or service. This is a very powerful advantage as material that is dangerous, difficult, or undesirable, can be safely measured from a distant location.

The purge type level measurement uses the flow of gas through a tube of almost any type and measures the back-pressure to determine the level. The measurement instrument is not very sensitive to the tubing; with minimal considerations the tubing will induce little or no error. The tubing to the process can be run into very tight locations, can be spliced, and can be of different material over the run. The tubing can be damaged or replaced at minimum cost without an effect on the main instrument.

The level measurement system can be located in any convenient location, and can measure the worst of liquids with the accuracy of modern transducers.

The purge type level instrument does not touch the liquid, and is not exposed to corrosion or contamination. The expected life of these systems is at least 20 years, or 200,000 hours of continuous use. Even with the most difficult liquids, only the sensing tubing is exposed, and this tubing can be replaced without any effect on the main system. Using bottled gas and an un-interruptable power supply as a backup, these systems can function without line power for an extended period if time. Using mechanical gages for indication, this system can also be completely non-electric and is suitable for explosive or locations without utility power.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION OPTIONS MENU

Gas Supply - The purge type level system requires compressed gas to purge into the process

Transducer - The system uses a pressure sensor to convert to a level output

Outputs - The instrument provides the level output scaled in any units

Displays - Local indication in Inches, Feet, Pounds, Gallons, Liters, or Channel Flow Rate

Alarms and Controls - For control and fault detection

Enclosures - As required for the installation environment

PRINCIPAL OF OPERATION

Like a diver going deeper in the water, the pressure increases with the depth. To blow bubbles at the base of the tube, the pressure at that depth has to be pushed aside, and that pressure is felt all the way back to the level system which can be up to 1,000 feet away.

The density of the liquid matters. Oil or Kerosene weighs less per gallon than water, and for that reason, develops less pressure at the bottom of the tank. The level systems are calibrated to the density of the liquid to be measured.
